Bog garden collection- 5 x 9cm plants €20

A very varied and interesting collection of five ferns, suitable for moist-wet conditions. Ferns growing in these conditions tend to prefer a little more light, especially the Osmunda and Pilularia. Give these a brighter spot if possible. The others are fine in deeper shade. All will be labelled and supplied in their 9cm pot. Ferns are:
Onoclea sensibilis
Pilularia globulifera*
Osmunda regails 'Purpurascens'
Matteuccia orientalis
Matteuccia struthiopteris

* When you see it you may wonder if this is a fern! IT is and a very unusual native one. Look closely and you will see that it may look superficially like grass but has the sporocarps at the base and the thin fronds uncurl like other ferns. You'll love it! Give it an open spot if possible. It's native conditions are by a temporary pond, where livestock etc eat vegetation around ponds and streams etc. Anything that removes competition, which this fern can't cope with. It creeps along with surface rhizomes, even growing in water up to 30cm deep. It does prefer acid conditions (pH6 is perfect).
