A specially picked Astrantia that grows well with and sings with ferns! It does well in partial shade and full sun in moisture retentive well drained soil. The ruby red flowers are produced readily. It grows about 70cm tall and clumps well over time.
This is a plant we have been enjoying playing with for great container designs. The ruby red is intense and contrasts superbly with ferns. The photo shows it with young Athyrium ang. 'Lady in Red' fronds. It goes well at this stage and gets better as the red in the Lady Fern stems deepens.
