Dicksonia squarrosa 24cm pot sold out
Dicksonia squarrosa 24cm pot (5-6 litre) €75

We are delighted to offer a beautiful tree fern, one that is definitely NOT taken from the wild! From the very start we decided to never offer plants taken from the wild, precluding us from offering a decent size of many of the tree ferns. The photograph shows the approximate size you will receive, the pot has a diameter of 24cm to give a good idea of scale.
These are not as hardy as Dicvksonia antarctica, and are a little fussier in their requirements. I had a specimen of this growing outside that, I thought, was killed by the harsh frosts in 2010/11. However later in the year a frond emerged from underground. This is a suckering tree fern so even if the fronds and trunk die off from frost then wait, you may be lucky! In growth this fern needs to be kept moist, including the trunk as well as it's growing media. It needs a sheltered shady spot to do well and protection in the winter. It can be brought in during the winter but do be careful of spring and summer heat drying out the fern.
The quick growing long trunk makes this a beauty worth trying. The fern you will receive has masses of fronds to get it growing fast. Give it a rich friable soil to encourage downward growth and spray with water if required in hot dry conditions.
Due to the weight of this fern we can only supply to Ireland and the UK. Customers in the rest of Europe are welcome to contact us for a postal quote.
