Cyathea australis - Rough Tree Fern
Cyathea australis - Rough Tree Fern

A dramatic and reasonably fast growing tree fern from Australia. Just about as hardy as Dicksonia antarctica (young plants do need protecting from frost), preferring brighter, more open sites.
Stipes have a very rough feel, hence the name of Rough tree Fern. This tree fern needs regular watering (though avoid the crown on mature plants) especially while actively growing. Do not overwater young plants though, just keep them moist and do not allow to dry out.
Prefers acid/neutral soil and light shade.
